...and we're back

We haven't posted for a while. At first it was because we were in the Azores and posting was difficult, then it was because of laziness. However, I am here to buck the trend. So here it is, the photo you have all been waiting for...

From Carrots from Heaven

That's right, we rented Segways and rode them around Ponta Delgada in the Azores. It was actually a lot of fun. We were able to rent them for 15 minutes for only 5 euros. This is a much better deal than the long multi-hour tours that is common in most places that I have seen. 15 minutes seems like just the right amount of time.

Driving the segway was pretty easy but took a few minutes to figure out. You just lean forward and the Segway starts going, preventing you from falling. Lean back and it does the same. Turning is easy too, just swing the handle bars in the direction you want to go, and the Segway turns. Stopping and un-mounting is a little trickier, but nothing we couldn't handle. As you pick up speed I had the tendency to stick my butt out. This would change the distribution of weight and cause the Segway to slow down or stop. I ended up driving around standing perfectly straight up with very good posture to avoid this. It feels kinda silly and everyone stared but I recommend that everyone try it at least once.
